Prerequisites and Requirements
- Applicants should be college or seminary students and be at least 18 years of age
- Applicants must be male, single and without dependents
- Applicants must have a clear call of God to be a senior pastor in the local church
- Applicants must be willing to take a year off of school to devote their full time attention to the learning experience of the NEHBC intern program
- Apprentices are allowed to take on-line courses, but work must be done in the evenings or during down time in the office. However, no blocks of time during the work week will be designated for class work.
- Apprentices should also keep in mind they will have assigned reading and writing assignments
- NEHBC is willing to work with the apprentice’s school in an effort to afford the student school credit for the internship
- Applicants will undergo an NEHBC background check prior to being offered the position
- Applicants must submit their school GPA
- If a college underclassman (freshman or sophmore), high school GPA will be required as well
- Applicants must have their own vehicle—motorcycle or automobile is acceptable
Expectations
- The apprentice must commit to the full 12 month program of August-July, the NEHBC ministry year.
- Applicants should consider that 12 months is a long time and issues like loneliness, homesickness and culture shock may arise
- The apprentice will sign and observe an extensive confidentiality agreement
- The apprentice must be submissive and teachable
- The apprentice is not a consultant to NEHBC re: how to better the church. The role of the apprentice is to learn through instruction, observation and practice
- Applicants must be humble
- NEHBC does not employ people who think there are Kingdom tasks below them
- The apprentice will not consume alcoholic beverages, use tobacco or use curse words during the course of his apprenticeship
- The apprentice may not have a romantic relationship with any female in the ministry to teens, even if she is legally an “adult”
- The apprentice will keep the work schedule of the senior pastor including unexpected emergencies during the work week and on weekends
A lifestyle unbecoming of a minister of the Gospel is cause for expulsion from the apprentice program.
